Spring Conference Sessions

NARA’s President, Stephen Hunter, will provide attendees with an overview of how NARA will be supporting the rehabilitation industry based on the current landscape of White House leadership, Congress, and leadership appointments.  The entire healthcare industry is posed for change based on the results of the election.  Not only did the party balance change but President Elect Trump is unlike his predecessors.  Rehab providers have faced shrinking reimbursement and increased regulation over the last several years.  Mr. Hunter will highlight some of the possible future changes, how NARA will provide support to providers, and how providers can begin making changes to prepare for the future.

Additionally, our sister organizations (APTA, AOTA, ASHA and NASL) will provide insight to the political changes and the impact on regulation for providers.  These organizations work with CMS and other entities to streamline and improve the delivery of care in the Rehab Industry.  They will share updates on payment initiatives, possible regulatory changes, and how providers can be advocates for themselves and their patients.

SNF Payment Model Change?  It could happen sooner than you think!  Natalie Leland, PhD, OTR/L, BCG, FAOTA and Toby Edelman, Esq. will lead a session on the Thursday afternoon discussing the recent recommendation from the SNF Payment Reform TEP.  The model recommends a change from the current PPS payment system of three components to five components.  Instead of therapy, nursing and non-case mix being the core components, this model suggests a PT/OT component, a separate SLP component and a non-therapy ancillary component, in addition to the nursing and non-case mix components.  Our speakers were members of the TEP and will provide us with an overview of this summary and the impact on providers.

George G. Olsen, Esq. along with invited speakers will address some of the current hot topics for rehab providers including the status of the Therapy Cap Repeal Bills currently in the House and Senate, prospects of Medicare and Medicaid reform, and the status of the Affordable Care Act – Full Repeal?  Partial Repeal?  Replacement(s)?

As the new Congress and White House begin to take shape, rehab providers sit at the edge of their seat with many questions to be answered?  By attending the NARA Spring Conference you will hear directly from those who are invested in the rehab industry and advocating for the future of providers and rehab.  Attendees will have the most current insight on how to begin assessing their businesses, care models, and advocacy in order to build for a solid future.

Travel Arrangements:  The conference will kick off on Wednesday, May 3rd at 8:30am and conclude at 1:00pm on Friday, May 5th.  The nearest airport is Reagan National Airport – approximately a 20-30 minute cab ride from hotel.
