National Physical Therapy Month

Every October we get to celebrate how physical therapy has changed the lives of so many people. It’s the perfect time to reflect on our goals, our future and how we can make an impact in our own lives. This year, NARA wants to concentrate on 5 ways you can overcome barriers that prevent you from getting the physical activity you need to lead a healthy life.

  1. Pain can be a pain

Getting active and being able to make basic movements is crucial to your wellbeing and quality of life. For some people though, pain can make even the simplest movements a huge obstacle. If you’re scared of the pain that comes with movement, don’t be. Physical therapists know all the tips and tricks to not only safely manage your pain, but even prevent and relieve it!

  1. Age is only a number

At no point in your life will it be too late to start physical therapy. In fact, adding some physical activity to your day has benefits at any age! While working with your physical therapist, you’ll be able to develop a daily routine to help manage your stress, improve brain function, avoid common ailments and so much more.

  1. Time is of the essence

At the end of the day, a little bit of physical activity is better than nothing. Even if you’re only able to fit in a few short bursts of activity, those bursts add up! Taking the dog for a walk or making a trip to the grocery store are all ways to get up and get moving.

  1. Limitations make it hard

Chronic disease, various health conditions and disabilities can all make movement and exercise difficult. However, it’s important to remember that movement is essential for everyone. Whether you utilize a mobility device or have movement limitations, your physical therapist will be able to develop a plan that works for you and your specific needs without pushing you too far.

  1. Goals are in the eye of the beholder

Have you been exercising and not getting the results you want? This is a common issue among those who are actively trying to increase their strength or abilities. Finding the right plan for you is going to be essential to your overall success. A trained and qualified therapist can make a huge difference in turning your physical routine around.

This October put all your worries behind you and get active! Meeting with a physical therapist is the first step on your path to wellness! Don’t let barriers stop you from achieving your goal, call your local physical therapist and start moving!
